In today\u2019s \u201cTechnical Word Tuesday\u201d we would like to give you a little more insight into the topic.<br><br>From a purely technical point of view, threads are described as <em>\u201chelical notches on the inside or outside of components\u201d<\/em>. In <strong>adhesive technology<\/strong>, threads are, besides the usual screws and nuts for fastening, most commonly found on nozzles or hose connections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending on the associated device, nozzles have <strong>internal threads or external threads.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"1476\" src=\"https:\/\/www.buehnen.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Innengewinde.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1476\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"1477\" src=\"https:\/\/www.buehnen.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Aussengewinde.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1477\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">Left: HB 196 with internal thread \u2013 Right: HB 250 with external thread<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Thread types in adhesive technology<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The most commonly used thread types are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>UNF 9\/16\u201c-18<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>UNF 7\/16\u2033<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>UNF 1\/2\u2033<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>M10 x 0.75<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The American identifier&nbsp;<strong>UNF<\/strong>&nbsp;stands for&nbsp;<strong>Unified National Fine Thread. <\/strong>&nbsp;Other thread shapes would be, for example <strong>UNEF<\/strong>&nbsp;(extra fine) or&nbsp;<strong>UNC<\/strong>&nbsp;(coarse thread), but the latter are rarely found in application devices. UNF threads are characterised by the diameter and number of threads per inch (threads per inch, TPI).&nbsp;For example, UNF 9\/16\u201c-18 means that it is a UNF thread with a diameter of <strong>9\/16 inch <\/strong>and&nbsp;<strong>18 threads per inch.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-thumbnail\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.buehnen.de\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/H1070896-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1479\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The more familiar&nbsp;<strong>M<\/strong>&nbsp;refers to <strong>ISO <\/strong>fine threads (DIN 13ff). The number attached describes the outside diameter <strong>in millimetres<\/strong>. As with the UNF threads, the flank angle is also 60\u00b0.
